My favorite chocolate cake

This is THE chocolate cake that I chose for one of the first birthday cakes for my kids that became a very popular one among my kids AND their friends!
Given this success in taste, this is the one that I chose as base for several birthday cakes later on.
I only changed the decoration/topping to fit to the occasion and you will see how a humble cake can end up to such an awesome cake :) Trust me and try it, you will become addicted!
Special tribute to all my family (husband and kids) that helped me to decorate the following cakes. These were moments of pure happiness... I love you!
Let's start from the basics...

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250 g) cake flour
  • ¾ cup (75 g) cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup (170 g) butter, softened
  • 2 cups (400 g) sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set to 175°C (fan) / 350°F. Butter a baking dish of your choice.

  2. Mix batter: Using a mixer, beat all ingredients together for a few minutes until smooth and well combined.

  3. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

  4. Cool: Let the cake cool before decorating.

  5. Decorate: Add chocolate ganache, marzipan, icing, or any decoration you like. Perfect for birthdays and special occasions!
