Two Greek Recipes You Won’t Find in My Cookbook… Yet

When I created my Greek recipe book "Vivian is Cooking GREEK", I focused on recipes I had already made and tested for years. Later, I realized two important classics were missing: Lahanodolmades and Kadaifi.

Both are now available here on the blog:

🥬 Lahanodolmades – tender cabbage rolls filled with a flavorful mixture.

🍯 Kadaifi – the classic crispy, nutty, syrup-soaked dessert.

I also offer printable versions of these recipes in my Etsy shop for those who want them separately, and they will be included in a future update of my cookbook.

Explore the recipes, try them at home, and enjoy a taste of traditional Greek cuisine!

My Lahanodolmades Recipe Just Got Even Better!

I’m excited to share a small but game-changing update to my lahanodolmades recipe!

Instead of boiling the cabbage to soften it, I tried freezing the raw leaves first - and it worked perfectly. This skips a tedious step and makes preparing stuffed cabbage rolls much faster, without sacrificing flavor.

One more tip: stick to the classic light green cabbage. I tried darker, curly frisée-type leaves, and the taste wasn’t as good.

If you haven’t tried my recipe yet, check it out here and see the updated tips at the end. Your meal prep will thank you!

Lahanodolmades – Greek Cabbage Rolls

Soft, tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a flavorful mix of meat and rice, bathed in creamy egg-lemon sauce — lahanodolmades are one of Greece’s most beloved dishes. Often served as a starter at Christmas, these cabbage rolls are comfort food at its finest: festive, hearty, and sure to impress family and guests alike. Choose the classic light avgolemono sauce or treat yourself to a richer, thicker version — either way, each bite is pure Greek tradition on a plate.

Note: Softening the cabbage leaves is the trickiest and longest part of this recipe. Freezing the whole cabbage could be an easy alternative, if you try it, let me know in the comments how it worked! More tips at the end.

Freezing works perfectly! I tried freezing the prepared lahano before cooking, and it came out just as delicious. A convenient tip for meal prep!

Greek Meatballs in Tomato Sauce (Soutzoukakia)

Soutzoukakia are delicious, savory Greek meatballs with a rich tomato sauce.

Made from a blend of ground veal and pork, these tender meatballs are seasoned with garlic, onion, cumin, and (optionally) cinnamon, offering a perfect balance of savory and aromatic flavors.

They’re typically served with rice or crusty bread to soak up the flavorful sauce.

Greek Baked Fish (Psari Plaki)

[Updated 26/02/2025]

"Plaki" is a way that in Greece we cook fish in the oven using tomatoes, onions and parsley. We can use whatever fish we like, but here I am using salmon just because I found nice fresh salmon today that it's the favorite of my husband. It's a recipe that I strongly suggest to try, as it tastes great!

>>>>This recipe is part of my ebook « Vivian Is Cooking Greek – 44 Authentic Recipes to Try at Home » <<<<

Pastitsio, the alter ego of Moussaka, is a comforting Greek pasta dish, often compared to lasagna. Exactly like Moussaka, it consists of layers of pasta (instead of vegetables), rich meat sauce, and a creamy béchamel topping..
