Homeburgers (Greek-Style Burgers – Biftekia)

[Updated 18/03/2025]

These juicy Greek-style burgers, or biftekia, are packed with Mediterranean flavors. Perfect for a homemade meal, they can be grilled, pan-fried, or baked for an easy and delicious dish.

Ingredients

  • 700g ground beef (or beef & pork mix)
  • 1 onion, finely grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (or soaked bread)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 1 tbsp chopped mint
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp mustard (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix all ingredients until well combined. Let the mixture rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. Shape into burger patties.
  3. Cook on a grill, pan, or in the oven at 200°C (fan) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  4. Serve with salad, pita, or fries.

Serving Tips & Variations

Pair with tzatziki and grilled vegetables. For a juicier result, add a splash of milk to the mixture.

[old procedure explanations]
In a bowl, mix well together all the ingredients (Bread should be wet and well squeezed to take out extra water).
By wetting often your hands, shape the burgers like the photo and put them on a special dish for the grill. Put them in the oven at 200 degrees of Celsius on grill for approximately 15 min. When one side is done, turn them upside down and leave them again 15 min. Alternatively, you can put the burgers in the bbq, and the taste will be even better.

Boil potatoes and make an easy salad using salt, pepper, oregano, olive oil and lemon juice. Accompany the burgers with this potato salad or a fresh green salad. If you make the burgers in the bbq, tzatziki would be great to serve with.
Let the bbq begin!
