October, the month of apples!

That's why I decided to present you today a recipe that was missing from my blog and that I like a lot: milopitakia!

Milopitakia, in greek, means mini apple pies but they are actually more kind of apple-filled cookies to be more precise.

Whatever you call them, I am sure that you will like them once you taste them, so here it goes in order to have them for real at your place :)

They look gorgeous too, no?

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 500 g self-raising flour
  • 1 cup butter (in pieces) or margarine (or oil)
  • ½ cup strained yogurt or white dry wine
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling:

  • 4 apples, peeled and coarsely grated
  • 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves (optional)

Finish:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough
In a bowl, gently knead together flour, butter, salt, and yogurt (or wine) until a soft dough forms.

2. Prepare the Filling
In another bowl, mix grated apples, walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.

3. Shape the Cookies
Form about 30 small dough balls (ping-pong size). Press each to make a small hollow, add a spoon of filling, then close and seal the dough.

4. Bake
Place on a lined baking tray and bake at 180°C (fan) for about 30–35 minutes, until lightly golden.

5. Finish & Serve
Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and a little cinnamon.

✨ Serving Tips & Variations

  • Do not overfill to keep the cookies well sealed.
  • Yogurt gives a softer dough; wine gives a lighter, crisp finish.
  • Best enjoyed slightly warm or at room temperature.
  • Perfect with coffee or tea, especially during the autumn season
