A classic and easy French waffle recipe—perfect for breakfast or brunch. Light, slightly crispy outside and soft inside, these waffles are delicious with sweet toppings and easy to customize.
INGREDIENTS
- 250 g all-purpose flour (T45 preferred)
- 10 g baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 500 ml milk
- 100 g butter, melted
- 1 pinch of salt
INSTRUCTIONS
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add wet ingredients: Add eggs and gradually pour in the milk while whisking until smooth and lump-free.
- Finish batter: Stir in melted butter. Batter should be smooth and medium-thick (it should coat a spoon but still flow slowly).
- Rest (optional but recommended): Let batter rest 15–30 minutes for lighter waffles.
- Preheat waffle iron: Heat until fully hot and lightly grease if needed.
- Cook waffles: Pour batter into the centre without overfilling. Close and cook 3–5 minutes until golden and crisp, with steam mostly stopped.
- Serve: Remove carefully and serve warm with toppings of choice.
TIPS & VARIATIONS
- Batter should be fluid but slightly thick — adjust with a splash of milk if needed.
- Do not overfill waffle iron to avoid overflow.
- Resting batter improves softness and reduces gluten toughness.
- Add 1 tsp vanilla or 1–2 tbsp sugar for sweeter waffles.
- For extra crisp waffles: slightly increase butter or cook 30–60 seconds longer.
- Serve with melted dark chocolate, Nutella, fresh fruit, honey, maple syrup, or ice cream and whipped cream.
