French breakfast to it's best! Waffles are called "gaufres" in french and if you have never tried them before or were looking for a basic recipe that it's easy and works very well, then try this one :)

Requires a waffle iron (electric waffle maker).

A classic and easy French waffle recipe—perfect for breakfast or brunch. Light, slightly crispy outside and soft inside, these waffles are delicious with sweet toppings and easy to customize.

INGREDIENTS

  • 250 g all-purpose flour (T45 preferred)
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 500 ml milk
  • 100 g butter, melted
  • 1 pinch of salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add wet ingredients: Add eggs and gradually pour in the milk while whisking until smooth and lump-free.
  • Finish batter: Stir in melted butter. Batter should be smooth and medium-thick (it should coat a spoon but still flow slowly).
  • Rest (optional but recommended): Let batter rest 15–30 minutes for lighter waffles.
  • Preheat waffle iron: Heat until fully hot and lightly grease if needed.
  • Cook waffles: Pour batter into the centre without overfilling. Close and cook 3–5 minutes until golden and crisp, with steam mostly stopped.
  • Serve: Remove carefully and serve warm with toppings of choice.

TIPS & VARIATIONS

  • Batter should be fluid but slightly thick — adjust with a splash of milk if needed.
  • Do not overfill waffle iron to avoid overflow.
  • Resting batter improves softness and reduces gluten toughness.
  • Add 1 tsp vanilla or 1–2 tbsp sugar for sweeter waffles.
  • For extra crisp waffles: slightly increase butter or cook 30–60 seconds longer.
  • Serve with melted dark chocolate, Nutella, fresh fruit, honey, maple syrup, or ice cream and whipped cream.
