Chocolate cake reminder

I woke up this Sunday morning with an urge to make this cake as a breakfast surprise for my family. A classic and versatile recipe that everyone should have, that of a Chocolate cake... yeah!

An old recipe that I am making it for years. Very handy as a base for a birthday cake (see some old photos below). Personalize it infinitely according to mood and cravings : adding fresh or dried fruits (bananas, berries, coconut, nuts. ...) and/or covering with chocolate ganache, jam or whatever your imagination might come up with or even better, that of your children. Today's version with smashed bananas and coconut. Click on "Read more" to see the old photos.

Want to change from chocolate cakes? Looking for a recipe that has a strong orange taste? Then this is your cake! Pity that you cannot smell from your computer :)
It is true that it does not have the glory of a chocolate cake but if you accept this, and dare to try, you will be addicted!

My favorite chocolate cake

This is THE chocolate cake that I chose for one of the first birthday cakes for my kids that became a very popular one among my kids AND their friends!
Given this success in taste, this is the one that I chose as base for several birthday cakes later on.
I only changed the decoration/topping to fit to the occasion and you will see how a humble cake can end up to such an awesome cake :) Trust me and try it, you will become addicted!
Special tribute to all my family (husband and kids) that helped me to decorate the following cakes. These were moments of pure happiness... I love you!
Let's start from the basics...
