Pasta flora/frola, the artistic pie!

Want to try a pie that have the looks, it's easy, tasty and practical? Then, pasta flora/frola is for you :)
I explain myself. According to your artistic talent, it can be gorgeous. It takes only few minutes to prepare. It's tasty as you can adapt it to your preferences. Finally, is practical, as it can be used for breakfast accompanied of a yoghurt, and your favorite drink (coffee, tea, juice, ...). I would even dare to consider it healthier than a simple cake. For my friend Lina today!
Here it goes...

Ingredients (for a 30 cm round Baking Dish)

Dough:

  • 225 g butter (1 cup), softened
  • 70 g sugar (⅓ cup)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp brandy
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 360 g all-purpose flour (3 cups)
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Filling:

  • 300 g jam (1 cup, e.g., strawberry, apricot, or your favorite)

Variation:

  • Replace egg + brandy with 120 ml orange juice (½ cup) for a lighter, aromatic version

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
Soften the butter slightly (microwave a few seconds if needed). Beat butter, sugar, egg, brandy, and vanilla until smooth.

  2. Add Dry Ingredients:
Add flour and baking powder gradually. Mix by hand until you get a soft, non-sticky dough.

  3. Prepare the Base:
Grease a 30 cm baking dish. Press ⅔ of the dough evenly into the base using your hands.

  4. Add the Filling:
Spread the jam evenly over the dough using a spoon.

  5. Decorate:
Use the remaining dough to create strips, lattice, or any decorative design. Let your creativity (or your kids!) shine 🎨

  6. Bake:
Bake at 175°C (fan) for about 30 minutes, until lightly golden.

  7. Cool & Serve:
Let cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Serving Tips & Variations

  • Perfect for breakfast with yogurt and coffee or tea.
  • Use different jams: apricot, raspberry, fig, or mixed berries.
  • The orange juice version gives a lighter, fruitier flavor.
  • Chill slightly before slicing for cleaner cuts.
  • Keeps well at room temperature for 2 days, covered.
